Austin Tao

Founding President

Austin Tao is a professional landscape architect and planner with over 30 years experience. He founded Austin Tao & Associates in 1980. Mr. Tao is deeply committed to the improvement of urban and natural environments through excellence in design. His extensive experience with both public and private development projects gives him a unique understanding of the interrelationships between development strategies, planning, design, and construction in the field of landscape architecture. In 2000, Mr. Tao was elected as the Fellow of American Society of Landscape Architecture due to his distinguished influence and contribution to this profession.

Mr. Tao has been active in public and professional community. He served for ASLA as St. Louis Region Chapter President in 1978, the Chapter Trustee and National Board Member from 1979 to 1982 and has been the Planning Committee of St. Louis Open Space Council. He had shared his professional experience with students by lecturing and critiquing in University of Illinois, Washington University, University of Oregon and lectured in Tsinghua University and Tianjing University in China.

Mr. Tao officially retired from the business in 2013. He lives with his family in St. Louis, MO, US. He accepts some small design projects from private owners and enjoys his time in tennis, golf and helping his community.
