Transportation management masterplans (TMM or PMGT) are tactical planning tools intended to promote the use of non-motorized means of transportation. In the process, TMM’s gather and distill large amounts of information regarding the territory and the transportation intended to be elaborated in subsequent phases -e.gr. the development of strategic transportation plans and/or the study of city ordinances. In practice, Dalcahue TMM allowed two kinds of projects intended to elicit a process of urban renovation of its historical downtown: (1) It provided the design of a new profile for Pedro Montt Avenue which allowed a seamless integration between the existing urban tissue and the new touristic buildings and parks installed by the seashore; (2) It offered a new profile for Mocopulli and Freire avenues transforming two historical roads into pedestrian-friendly boulevards, intended to consolidate this areas as the new city commercial district.
