Transportation management masterplans (TMM or PMGT) are tactical planning tools intended to promote the use of non-motorized means of transportation. In the process, TMM’s gather and distill large amounts of information regarding the territory and the transportation intended to be elaborated in subsequent phases -e.gr. the development of strategic transportation plans and/or the study of city ordinances. In practice, this TMM allowed two kinds of projects that elicited a process of urban renovation of Puerto Aysen: (1) it set a new standard for sidewalks and pedestrian crossings near existing schools, consequently compelling the renovation of a relevant proportion of existing streets. (2) it elaborated a new design for the public spaces intended for the commercial district, promoting an orderly transition of the existing land uses while better focusing the public investment in the area.

In the process, TMM’s gather and distill large amounts of information regarding the territory and the transportation intended to be elaborated in subsequent phases -e.gr. the development of strategic transportation plans and/or the study of city ordinances. Cochrane TMM suggested several initiatives intended to solve some environmental issues raised by local communities -e.gr. the consolidation of the riverfronts of Tamango Creek and Cochrane River; the integration to the urban tissue of an existing network of public trails connecting the town with a national park nearby, among others. Of them, three were developed further within the scope of this project: (1) The design of a rational network of bike trails; (2) The restoration of the sidewalks surrounding the newly built hospital; and (3) The redesign of the streets connecting downtown with the new social housing developments located in the hills north of the city, incorporating a new design standard according to the severe winter conditions.

Porvenir TMM allowed two kinds of projects intended to elicit a process of urban renovation of Porvenir’s historical downtown: (1) It set a new standard for sidewalks and pedestrian crossings near existing schools, playgrounds and plazas, consequently prompting the renovation of a relevant proportion of existing streets. (2) On the request of incorporating bike trails within the historical downtown, TMM provided the design for the four avenues that surrounded the historical quartier, allowing the consolidation of a continuous and comprehensive circuit of boulevards.

In practice, Dalcahue TMM allowed two kinds of projects intended to elicit a process of urban renovation of its historical downtown: (1) It provided the design of a new profile for Pedro Montt Avenue which allowed a seamless integration between the existing urban tissue and the new touristic buildings and parks installed by the seashore; (2) It offered a new profile for Mocopulli and Freire avenues transforming two historical roads into pedestrian-friendly boulevards, intended to consolidate this areas as the new city commercial district.

With a population of about 300.000 people, Vina del Mar is a conspicuous turistic destination and a relevant commerce/service hub in Central Chile. Vina del Mar TMM suggested several initiatives intended to solve some critical issues regarding street parking and public transportation, allowing the creation of two new boulevards, a new standard for local streets in the most traditional quartier, and a improved accesibilite to the seashore -Vina del Mar main environmental asset.

Chile Chico TMM suggested several initiatives intended to solve transportation issues. Of them, two addressed critical issues raised by local communities, and, not by chance, suggested processes of urban renovation in the city: (1) It set a new standard for sidewalks and pedestrian crossings around the city’s main square, and Bernardo O’Higgins Avenue -two of the most relevant public spaces in the city. (2) It offered a design for a set of minor streets in the east end of the city, intended to facilitate the access of recent public housing developments to Chile Chico’s main environmental asset: Lake Carrera lakeshore.
